Paulo Coelho – Adultery
(Not surprisingly) I get a lot of complaints… Repetitively, people ask for more porn in my coverage and I could rule these out saying “I don’t read that much of a porn”, but this kind of attitude will get us nowhere. Plus, I think you guys are onto something…
As many of a porns, I’m certain you have been, I’m sure, forced to watch/read, also this one starts with a bored woman. (“You sexist jerk!” I can see you ladies going nuts, but please don’t hate the player, hate the game. Most of the porn is produced to be consumed by the male population and we like our actresses to be bored. We are all entertainers at the end of the day…)
And it ends up with a bored reader (again it’s a porn for heaven’s sake!)…
“That bad?” (You might feel like asking.)
1. It’s Coelho, so you will want to read more (and it’s a porn, so here I don’t expect you to be surprised…).
2. It’s Coelho, so you will learn something you didn’t know (even if it would be only the fact, that he is a pig…).
3. It’s Coelho, so you know there is a ton of beautiful thoughts.
4. It’s Coelho, so there has to be some life advice for you…
…my problem is that I didn’t find it. As hard as I tried, I just didn’t understand what is what I have to do differently in my life to make it better (which is THE reason to read this Brazilian prodigy).
P.S.: Should I rank it as a porn piece, we would be talking much higher numbers.
P.S. 2: My constant returns to the meaning of this book don’t correlate with its score. Maybe it should be a 7!
Favorite line(-s (Oh, get over it, I will be cheating here more often than not!)):
“We aren’t who we want to be. We are what society demands. We are what our parents choose. We don’t want to disappoint anyone; we have a great need to be loved. So we smother the best in us. Gradually, the light of our dreams turns into the monster of our nightmares. They become things not done, possibilities not lived.”
“Love isn’t just a feeling. It’s an art. And like any art, it takes not only inspiration but also a lot of work.”
